    Spider V Dreambox

I,ve not done any sat stuff since 2007 until last week when I bought a spider box for 58 quid , I still have a humax 5400 which i presume is E-O.L now and a Dreambox 7000 is there anything available for that nowadays?

But my question is what do you get extra for that 300 quid + when you buy a modern dreambox instead of a spiderbox?

well for a start the spiderbox is a closed source box which rules out the options to customize it to suit your own needs,,,,,the dreambox runs on linux and has a lot of differant images available & plugins which can be added,,,and tailored to your neeeds,,,,,it also has unlimited channel capacity,,,,where as the spiderbox is tied to 6000.for the price of the spiderbox it includes "iks,,,gift" which offers quite a few channels spread across differant sattelites ,it dosent include 28.2e.....so it needs a motor to make use of this function.with the dreambox you have to add c, lines or n, lines to connect to a server. the vu+boxes have taken over from the dreambox, and are cheaper to buy and of higher spec........the cost of an original dreambox is way out of my league,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ive had a spiderbox6000 for a while now and would not part with it ,i also have a few dreamboxes "clones" ,, which work very well and were not overly expensive,,,,,but for 58 quid for the spider, it is one hell of a bargain .......the dreambox has a lot more functionality than the spider will ever have....but i would keep my 300£ and go with the spider,,,,,,,

From my perspective (I have a Spiderbox 6000 and a an enigma 2 based Vu+ Uno) the argument for me is, as voyager says, a closed source box or one that runs linux (enigma2).

I have just resurrected my Spiderbox but think that the flexibility of an Enigma2 o/s has such advantages although the only thing I really don't like about the Spiderbox is its limited EPG. And I also think that the Spiderbox wins hands down on IPTV despite having the likes of TSmedia and IPTVupdater for the Linux o/s.

Knowing what I do now (and most of that is through help on here) would I buy another Spiderbox. No!!! I have recently had a play with an Enigma 2 clone that apparently is the same price as the Spiderbox. For a second/third box I might well go down that or a DM500 route or at least the cheaper end receivers such as the Vu+ range. My choice would be purely down to budget and the flexibility of a Linux based o./s

But the Spiderbox 6000 has it's place and my critici*** of it, however petty, are purely down to my personal preference regarding an EPG.
