    Use a 3G dongle of your provider.Put the SIM in dongle and dongle to box's usb port.
    Then from receiver's menu select 3G Network and your provider.

    I'll try me phone tonight and see if it works. It's got 4g.
    If this works it makes this box and the people who work on the software absolutely amazing

    MiFi settings for access to the internet for a stb

    Hi Guys could do with a bit of help on this.
    I am trying to set up a sat system for my caravan down in Devon and have purchased a MiFi Huawei E5332. My stb is an Ice S3550HDCCI. I have got the propsed system (for the caravan) all up and running at home stb+tv+MiFi+laptop. I have good WiFi connection and a good connection to the internet via the laptop with good speed (3G). I can associate the stb to the Mifi device but cannot get it to open any channels, its almost like the stb is not recognising the host servers.
    I have no problems with this set up when using the home network everything opens ok
    Any Ideas? thx in advance.

    Hi Again,

    Anyway having read some of the posts in this section I now understand better whats important with respect to making C/S work via a 3g network.

    Just returned from Devon having done some tests with my MiFi unit and T-Mobile provider with some interesting results.
    1) was able to stream a footy match no problems at all
    2) Download info via the internet, google search etc, no problems
    3) Receive email but not send it via MS Outlook
    4) Could not get the C/S to work at all

    Borrowed my mates Orange sim and could do all of the above plus C/S (allbeit very fragmented)

    So begs the question why?

    Now back home I've read some of the posts in this section I did some comparitive tests to find out what Ping and Jitter results I was getting with the various providers/internet connection methods.

    Results below;

    Home broadband;
    ISP Plusnet
    Ping 18 msec
    Jitter 1 msec
    Upload 0.70 Mbps
    Download 18.46 Mbps

    MiFi
    ISP T-Mobile (EE network)
    Ping 339 msec
    Jitter 292 msec
    Upload 1.00 Mbps
    Download 1.08 Mbps

    Unfortunately I do not have the Orange sim to do the same tests but clearly its Ping and Jitter that are key to getting good C/S.

    Does anybody know what Ping and Jitter threshold figures are required for good C/S?

    I do not have a choice of networks down in Devon its EE or nothing;
    Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin all use the EE network so I do have a choice of providers but does puzzle me why there should be a difference in performance between providers on the same network.
    Any Ideas?

    Interesting development!
    Having taken some advice from a MiFi expert provider I decided to try a different ISP (their recomendation).
    I was told that the reason I'm having such difficulty was not the ping or jitter rate (notoriously bad for 3g) but more the fact that most ISP's do not have a fixed IP address associated with their 3g sims. One exception being Andrews and Arnold (never heard of them) anyway I thought I would give it a go and bingo! I can happily C/S. The ping rates are typically around the 400 ms and jitter at 100 ms. This company use the 3 network which is good where I live but the system has to be checked out in north Devon, so will do a final review after my next visit to the van

    Footnote to this thread.
    Down in Devon and trying out the system.
    Success, good C/S activity, some fragmentation but very watchable. Happy Bunny.
    Conection detaila;
    Andrews and Arnold IP simm only
    Three network, 3g access
    Fixed IP address, upload speed 2.17 mg download speed 4.9nmg.
    Ping 95, jitter 10.
    The key though for good C/S is the fixed IP

    Hi
    While I work away ,I have been using a TP Link TL MR3420 wireless router with a Huawei Hi Link E3256 Dongle inserted for use in my caravan I have great connection to my Spider box 600 and use my laptop ,Wi-Fi for Phone and even connection to PlayStation, in Loughborough area on 3 network even though 3 said this dongle would not work in a router. Quite amazing what you can achieve today with some of this gear.

    What satpaul advised you is correct.
    Just follow instructions.
    It can be also done with any android phone.

    Yes it works easy if you have a wifi connection.
    It does not work when turn wifi off on phone to enable 4g.
    Therefore the 3G facility on box does not work. Not sure if it works with a dongle though

    Okay got it working. You have to have wifi turned on on your phone for it to work. I turned my modem off so new only had 4g connecton. Plugged in and selected wifi on spiderbox. Bang scrambled channels worked. Also when I took USB lead out it still worked.
    Therefore this box is unbelievable and the fellas who do the software are just fantastic

    This can and does work (in a fashion) using your mobile as a hotspot but does depend alot on your location reception and isp if you want good reliable connections to servers you would be best to get a bespoke MiFi unit and one that takes an external arial also an ISP with a fixed IP address (read post 6)
