    Signal strength

I reaiise that not all boxes show the same signal strength/quality as each other, but, as an example on my HD9000 BB1 HD(10846V 23000) shows S88 Q98 yet on my HD6000 the maximum I can get is S82 Q78.
Has anyone else noticed this difference?
I don't know whether there is any connection here but I've noticed that on BB1 HD sometimes I get pixelation but changing to another channel, then back again seems to cure it.

Yes, I had a sb9000 & the signal/quality showed higher than the 6000 with exactly the same setup. Not sure what that proves tbh !

Sat receiver bar graphs vary wildly with the different makes, they are only rough indicators of signal level and quality.

If you want exact decibel levels of each you have to pay for professional kit which is in the high hundreds of pounds to buy, the cheap sub ten quid models are the hardest to use as they are not very sensitive to weaker signals, they are ok for astra 1 and 2 and hotbird and other high power sats.

My cheaper sat meter struggles with 39E as it is so close to 42E which swamps it, it sees the two sats as one big signal, my satlink at £60 can separate them and display a picture so you know you've got the right bird, not always easy in life !!!!!

All tuners are calibrated different so unless you use a meter as suggested you can't prove anything with their readings.

So, a max of S82 and Q78 is the norm for a strong signal?
If that's the case, then that's fine.

That's why I mentioned that sometimes I get a bit of break up on BBC 1 HD and wondered if it was due to my relatively low readings. It also happens on BBC2 HD but every other channel seems fine.
On the other hand I wonder if maybe i'm getting some interference on that frequency from somewhere?

Been watching BBC 3 HD (same frequency) been breaking up a lot and freezing to the point where the audio and video get way out of sync. Changing to another channels and then back again sorts it for a while. I don't think it's a signal problem. Could it be a box problem?

if your in the uk you should be ok, outside in this area you need a bigger dish, freesat uses narrow beams to limit its fta footprint, sty uses wide beams so it can sell cards and boxes all over Europe.

Its the biggest seller of its boxes outside the uk in Europe, its the first to complain when other EU broadcasters try to muscle in, its a totally corrupt broadcaster.

Im in the uk and have exactly the same problem, there is as much as 20% signal and quality difference between my 9000 and 6000, and I suffer the same pixilation problems, the 9000 is perfect on the same dish set up, its a strange problem but channel flicking cures it as already stated, I just live with it as I cant find a solution :-/

Hi Guys I live in East Yorkshire and can honestly say that I dont get breakup on any of the UK HD channels, the exception to this is if there is heavy rain or snow clouds then yes it does happen. My signal and quality readings on my HD6000 on BBC1 HD are S=84% Q=71%

It's good to hear from people that have the same problems as me, and from others who don't have a problem. Strange.......
It has all the symptoms of a weak signal, but it isn't that, so what is it?

ps. I live in ***bria UK.

Just done another test, BBC 1 HD on 6000hd 82% signal 70% quality, pixilation problems with 88cm triax with 0.1 smart titanium lnb
Same set up on 9000hd 100% signal 98% quality, no issues what so ever ! Location uk just west of Newcastle upon Tyne, tried skew of lnb didn't make a great deal of difference to either box, bit of a strange issue ! Unless its a lnb connection problem internally on the 6000 ? I just don't know !

It seems to be a problem (for me) on other HD channels as well. Just been on Dave HD and although no breaking up on picture, I noticed sync was way out. Again, switching to an SD channel and back again cured it.

Very interesting. The other day i was resetting a systems 80cm with spider6000,got the same problem with signal,15% difference .98% quality on my 9000 box. On my meter the signal is very good but when connected to 6000 drops by about 15%.
