    New box set up query

    Hi,

I'm just about to purchase a brand new non clone Vu+Duo box, I fully appreciate as a novice that I'm going to need to do plenty of Googling and general research to set the box up to my spec however, I do have one question.

The company will install the image of my choice before dispatching. When the box arrives will this image be enough to allow me to simply enter my Cccam settings and then scan for channels in the way my Spiderbox did. Or will I need to be following more complex processes to get the Cccam settings and channels scanned.

At this stage I don't want to run before I can walk and am therefore not bothered about Picons and EPG's etc.

    Thanks.

Depends on what image you have installed, some will allow installation of CCcam and settings with a few presses of the buttons once your box is on your network.

If you order the Duo from our sponsor and have selected their image installation service all you'll have to do when you receive it is copy the empty CCcam.cfg file from the /var/etc folder enter your own lines, save it then FTP the CCcam.cfg file back to the /var/etc folder and restart CCcam from the Blue Panel (Blue Button) on remote control.

Thanks guys, I've taken your advice.

I contacted Goldwaffers (very helpful chap) and purchased the Vu+ Duo with the Vix image pre-installed which should arrive on Friday.

hda5 - To follow the process you mention above to configure the Cccam do I need to use the Vu+ control centre V0.7 software, am I on the right track ?

Apparently the Vix image comes with a EPG installed does anyone know how many hours or days it looks forward ?

    Thanks for the clear direction.

7 day epg and works very well.
You can use Vu+ Control centre to add your CCcam.cfg
Are you ok with ftp ?

Use Vu+ Control Centre to FTP the CCcam.cfg file from the /var/etc folder on your Duo to your local hard drive.

Then use a program called Notepad++ to edit the CCcam.cfg file. Download Notepad++ from _http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.5.3.html

Once you've edited and saved your CCcam.cfg file, FTP the file back to the /var/etc folder on the Duo.

Then press the Blue Button on remote control -> select Softcam Manager -> select CCcam and press OK to restart CCcam.

    hda5,

I've got a populated CCcam.cfg file saved on my computer from when I set up my Spiderbox. Can I use this file and follow on from step 3 of your 4 step process above ? If so, will I need to delete the CCcam file from the Duo before I FTP my cfg. file across ?

Will the EPG work straight from the box or will it need to be configured in anyway?

    Thanks again.

if you have your spiderbox cfg file it should have your line details, which if they are in the same cccam standard format as needed by the duo its a copy and paste from the spider cfg to the cccam.cfg

I would suggest you also obtain a usb stick for the rear usb slot (permanently fitted) for storing the epg and picons on, when you get around to using crossepg and possibly cooltvguide , the usb stick is the best place for both

use a different usb stick for flashing the box etc from the front usb port etc

ideally you want a 3.5 inch or 2.5 inch sata hdd fitted internally for files and recording/playback too
mine has divx , mp4 , mkv , mp3 files on it as well as recordings etc

re my answer in my post 9, what i meant was that he wont have to delete files, as the cfg file will be all ready be present in ccam cfg file and so he could leave it and just copy and paste details. which is what echelon has stated as well.

    Echelon,

The box will have a 1tb hard drive installed when it arrives. Will the EPG within Vix image run from the HDD or are you suggesting I will need to run it from a USB drive?

You mention Cooltvguide and CrossEPG, I assume these are plugins and not the default EPG guide included within Vix image that the chap from Goldwaffer mentioned on the phone today ?

    Appreciate all the support.

    Cheers.

good to hear the hdd will already be fitted

I havent used vix in about a year so cannot comment on vix images, BH is on mine , but I would think that you would still need a usb stick in the back for the epg data and picons as you want instant access to them whereas if you used the hdd and if it was sleeping you would have freezing whilst waiting for it to spool up , its also the place where your backups are stored too

for the price of a usb stick its not worth it !!

yes , crossepg and cooltvguide are plugins that you may (or may not) need

Box should be here tomorrow !!

Once I've installed the cfg file and set up that side of things whats next ? I have not got a motorized dish just a straight forward static dish. How do I go about selecting the Satallite and scanning for channels ?

    Thanks again.

why would you be selecting a sat and scanning for channels ? I didnt !

just use a channel list like catseyes, as mentioned by dcg , sometimes they can be downloaded from the menu options or plugin options , depending on the image used, in any case, the dummies tutorial sticky thread clearly mentions installing channel lists

frankly, I will never understand peoples obsession with scanning for channels, this is not terrestrial freeview

in fact, until you have exhausted the recommendations in the dummies thread you should not be doing anything else !
