    Playing films from USB

    Hi all
Has anybody managed to play a film that was downloaded onto USB then inserted into TV?
Using an Edge contribution,I downloaded onto my USB stick.
I tried it in my Samsung series 6 smart TV and it tells me the file is not supported.
    It's not that smart.
I know I can do it from my external HDD but would like the option of USB stick as well.
    TA.

It will depend on the format. avi files are just a wrapper for a whole host of different compression routines.

PC's can usually show most of the formats but TVs can't.

The thing to do is see what will play and then ana1yse the file in a PC utility to see what format/codec is being used. Then the ones that won't play could be converted to a format the TV will accept.

I've played around with my Sony Bravia and some work without problems but others are a nightmare to convert.

BTW I have added a HDD to my Sony Bravia and recorded some DTT stuff to it with the intention of creating a DVD or the like. Ana1ysing the recorded file shows that it seems to be in some weird Sony format and may even be encrypted.
