Is your Smart Tv spying you?

Interesting article on LG smart tvs collecting users viewing preferences /online activities as well as what is being watched from USB STICK and sending them back to LG without you even knowing. Have a look:
    Code:

    --------
Scary stuff, I for one don`t own and don`t intend to own SmartTv, I bet its just a tip of the iceberg, and other manufacturers do the same (just not been caught yet)

I'm with you Roadrunner! There must by now be a market for an excellent 1080p "MONITOR" to replace the TV. I, for one, only use my TV as a monitor into which I plug my Vu+, my S*y box and my BluRay player - all three of which are competing to offer everything that a smart TV does. I don't even use the terrestrial tuner - but I cannot buy a TV without it.

Same here, I only use the TV for its screen. At the time of purchase all I was interested in was the quality of its panel and the number of sockets on it. Two years old now and it still beats most new tv`s hands down..for the online services I use other equipment (hooked up to the tv thanks to the many ports on it, but without the risk of sharing my viewing patterns with anyone

A flaw in the Samsung software was found earlier this year.

Apart from early TV viewing my Router gets switched off when I
turn off PCs later in the evening. It doesn't matter what electronic
communications based equipment you use, it seems their is always someone trying to get information about you. Too much
money in advertising now, apart from the spying aspect.

Not good, same with xbox one ie Microsoft who are massive data collectors....none of these company's every give you the option to not have info collected because we would all say NO!

Certain functions are not made available on smart TVs unless you consent to data collection feedback.
    Blackmail comes to mind.

They can collect all they want as far as I'm concerned, and the only thing they would see if they ****** my tv webcam, is me watching TV

you may not be concerned with all your details being easy to access with very little security and backdoors left wide open in everything but many are .

i would prefer my bank details to at least be safe but nothing is anymore , i damage the rfid chips in my bank cards because rfid is open source and very easy to read .

the backdoors that are left open for security agencies are just as easy to be used by everyone else .

the security in everything which has personal details kept on has been relaxed to allow spying . so our personal security is left vulnerable by the very agencies we pay for security .

people may not care that we pay tax to weaken our privacy and security but i would rather my tax not be wasted in this manner .

Good read, thanks for the link. I think that all connected devices are easily hackable. Computers, tablets, watches, everything we use. We all have to use common sense when getting on the Internet and thats all one can do really.

Yet another 'thing' to worry about in this friendly world of ours?
