    moved to the android forum

perhaps your tablet has no internal gps system ? I know my old tablet didnt as it was an externally linked and wired gps addon "dongle"

also I dont think you need to put any longitude and latitude in as its determined by your gps position same as on a satnav

cheers Echelon, that may be the case, how can i tell if the tablet (a Busbi 7") has no internal GPS system?

it may seem an abvious answer , but you would have to check the specs listed on the advert or website or any instructions that came with it, or its box that it came in

if it hasnt got an internal gps system, then clearly that is the problem in your case, so what you should really be asking yourself is, " why do I think it does have an internal gps system similar to a satnav ? ". or did you just assume it does have this feature ?

I know the more expensive tablets like my new google nexus 7 have this feature built in and that copilot from this android forum works on it

checking an advert on fle bay it doesnt mention any gps in the spec

the ones with gps say this

    "GPS/Galileo GNSS Navigation"

I just find it odd that you mention putting in your location when clearly a gps satnav (or copilot) should be able to work that out by locking onto the gps satellites same as on a tom tom or my navigo satnav, where the only thing I have put in is my postcode so it can easily take me to my home address

a gps system never needs your longitude or latitude as it works out your exact location from locking onto several gps satellites

obviously a satellite receiver has no idea where your location is as it does not have this technology, which is why we put in our longitude and latitude into the usals section on our boxes, sounds like your busbi suffers from the same lack of a gps tracking system

buy cheap you buy twice m8

these cheaper tablets are fine for games and wifi browsing , emails , reading books and playing mp3 music files and mp4 videos etc so ideal for kidz and I just bought 2 cheaper ones like the busbi for my grandkids to mess about with

but for us "seniors" you really need the google nexus 7 , or the samsung galaxy tab 2 , or some other similar device like the nook HD+, and in your case double check for gps in the spec before buying it, seeing as its a requirement you wish to use

the old adage of "you get what you pay for" springs to mind, and my first thought when I saw your opening post was later confirmed in your replies, that you had bought a cheap tablet where gps isnt featured in the hardware or spec. on checking into those specs I was proved correct and have posted the specs so you can see the difference

the tablets with gps cost around twice the price of the busbi, or more , in some cases considerably more , although you can get a free galaxy tab 2 or nexus 7 with some 2 year phone contracts like the samsung S3 mini mobile phone for instance (or htc one or sony experia)

good job it was bought for the purpose you said and not your own purposes eh ? LOL

ps:- I can confirm the copilot app from the sticky thread works fine on the galaxy tab 2 and nexus 7

checking on fle bay I found a similar tablet to the busbi , at 3 times the price but bigger screen

DISGO 8400G Dual Core 3G GPS 7.9" HD CAPACITIVE SCREEN TABLET GOOGLE ANDROID 4.1

or £100 for the following one similar to your non-gps tablet (so twice the price)

NEW 7" INCH TABLET PC ANDROID 4.0 WITH 3G/2G CALLING GPS BLUETHOOTH 1024X600 HD

but the cheaper under £50 allwinner A13 tablets dont have gps support

Or as Echelon said in an earlier post, you could add a USB GPS dongle* but you are on your own with regard to s/w that would interface with Co-Pilot.

    * I've seen them for as little as US$30 which is a lot less than I paid about 7 years ago for one for my lappy when satnav was in its infancy. I still occasionally use it with Autoroute Express as it shows altitude as well.

For what it's worth, if the tablet has Bluetooth, you can also get cheapish Bluetooth gps "dongles".

Ive got one that works really well with tomtom on an ipod.
