depends on the router
some of them, you can assign ip dependant on the mac address of the connected equipment
my mams got the same box and same router and if I bring that to mine the static ip gose on and off and if I take it back to her it says on, shes got same router/internet as me, abit mad
I don't want to disregard what you've said but how do you know the loss of connection has anything to do with a static ip address?
when you start having networking issues (which used to work) then you need to look at changes you made recently.
Start off by telling us what your setup is:
1.is the box hard-wired or do you use wifi.
2. what are the settings of your box.
3. can you ping the box when the connection is lost (ie is it possible that your internet connection is down but the box is still on the local network)
again, it could be a router issue
if you set a device with a static ip address
and
the router DHCP is set to deliver addresses in the full range - then you WILL have problems
limit the range of the DHCP server in the router to 100 addresses,
then any fixed ip addresses should be outide the DCHP range of the router
I think oldfart may be correct. It sounds like you might have an ip address conflict issue. What is the static ip address of your box? Try set it outside the range of the dhcp server or at least at the top end, making sure it doesnt clash with another static ip addresss you may have configured.
eg if your router ip address is 192.168.1.1 then set the ip address of your box to 192.168.1.200 or dsomething like that.
