TUTORIAL - changing reseller id on S4000 , changing firmware and E2

Tutorial for changing reseller ID to OCTAGON sf1018 on an Icecrypt S4000 and also installing their firmware into the s4000

all thanks to various contributors like fatboy07 , manikm and paulipm (any anyone else I have forgotten or missed out)

make sure your Icecrypt is using the bootloader v1.54 first, and backup your settings list (the FDU file - channel list) to usb stick too
I also backed up my plugins which were on my fat32 usb stick, and also ftp my configs etc from the box to my laptop too

    1. With the stock bootloader L1.54 and any firmware, install this twin tuner plugin: T11-BA09a
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...ader-T11-BA09a
    2. Make sure the internal HDD is formatted and recognised at this point too.
    3. START the plugin, code 0815 , then use left and right to select the new reseller ID 'SF1018'. Press select, then restart the box.
    4. Check the VFD on boot up, use the up and down keys to select Flash, to boot into stock firmware or USB P1 for E2. (when happy with the full install press red on remote to select default boot flash or usb p1 as required.
    5. When back in stock firmware, make a note of the box IP address in the network menu. ideally set a fixed ip address and also save in the router admin panel too
    6. At this point go to storage manager and perform a format on the user data partition.
    7. After the above boot back to stock firmware.
    8. You can now install the octagon firmware like this new version v1.11.44 dated MAR 7 2013
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...agon-HD-SF1018

I did this by loading it to the root directory of a fat32 formatted stick and inserting it into the front usb port and downloading the octagon ird firmware into the box. Once its installed it will reboot so just leave it alone until its back to the main screen, check system info and you will see different colours are used and it now says its an octagon SF1018 (SF-1018-ALLIANCE) and no longer showing as an icecrypt s4000

alternatively you can use the method in here in post #1
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...eaner-Firmware

    9. format the user data area too, then install the latest plugin pack from post #6 here
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...-Plugin-bundle

bear in mind you need to replace the stock cardclient.conf file with your own saved file
or add your user details (c line) to the cardclient.conf file contained in the new plugin instead

nb:- in option 6 the required box pops up when you insert your stick in the front usb socket, so navigate left/right to plugin and use green to format the user data area. or with the stick plugged in try menu - data transfer - data download from usb storage , navigate left/right to PLUGIN and again use the green button to format the user area, then red to download your latest plugin like the latest xcam from our plugin section

any user info on the box is lost due to the format so ensure you have backed this up and use the old config file in the new xcam if you have working C or N lines on it

    more to follow

How to install E2 - a guide (running from a fat32 formatted USB stick)

    10. Download Maxiboot 1.5 installer from here:
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...-Installer-1-5
    11. Download your preferred E2 image and store on PC. like this one here in post #22 (SF1018 10846 E2 HDMU image)
    https://www.satpimps.co.uk/showthrea...Atevio-Octagon
    12. On a PC format a USB stick to fat32 then leave in the rear of the box.
    13. Install maxiboot installer on a PC (run as administrator if needed), change the IP address to your box's IP address (from above), and your default gateway is normally 192.168.0.1 if using a router. Change the telnet and ftp username to 'root' no password needed, tick the auto helper box then connect.
    14. After a while you will see your HDD and USB on the left panel in maxiboot installer. ( /dev/sda (internal HDD) and /dev/sdb (USB stick) )
    15. Right click on the HDD, select 1 partition in EXT3 and give it a label of 'RECORD'. It will ask to confirm etc then format the HDD, it will take a while and may even give a time out error, just wait its fine.
    16. Right click on the USB, select 1 partition (no point in 2), in EXT2 and its label by default is MINI1
    17. After both are formatted, try the refresh button to see if both appear in the right panel, if not restart box to stock and connect again.
    18. Right click on the USB on the right panel and select mount.
    19. Once mounted right click again and select install image, then find your downloaded image.
    20. It will ask to format again, this is fine, when its finished (a good few minutes), disconnect in maxiboot.
    21. Leave stick in (now got the extracted image on it), and restart the box in USB P1 mode and your done, set up E2 and enjoy.

    NOTES:-

this seems to be very fussy about which USB sticks are used, so you may have to test several until you find one that installs ok (I ended up testing with an old 2 gig usb stick in the end after 2 rejections)
