1080i and 1080p are exactly the same amount of pixel data the only difference is one is interlaced and one is progressive.

After viewing other providers HD channels especially when Sky Italia was available in HD compared to Sky UK there really was no contest the UK channels are definitely poor compared to others

Also note the difference on the DVB-S2 UK transponders that hold 5 HD channels are all on QPSK and average around 43mbps, Where as Euro providers have the same 5 channels per transponder but use the better 8PSK and higher bitrate 54mbps

Also worth considering that Sky UK dropped most of there SD channels from the usual 704x576i down to 544x576i an obvious ploy to make people upgrade and think there HD channels where of a greater quality

Very interesting that mate - never knew that difference between 'i' and 'P' - cheers!
(I'd always believed that 1080P was the bees knees - and never likely to happen apart from via dvd etc - and only to be eventually replaced in quality by 'general' UHD, by which time we'll probably have yet another gimmick to go by!! lol!!)

It will not go the same way as 3d because 4k is picture detail which is what everyone wants when buying a Tv

The picture will only ever be as good as the providers transmission. Considering our HD(UK) is pretty poor in comparison to our european cousins SD. It won't matter how good the tele's resolution is. We need a Law written to describe minimum specs on broadcast transmissions to meet SD or HD to stop providers reducing bit rates and so forth.I'd rather have less channel selection at higher quality than more choice.

Absolutely spot on mate - it doesn't matter HOW many 'super quality' tvs are being manufactured - if we cant get transmissions in that quality from any of the usual - or even other - providers, what good are they, eh?
