    ping test ?

im having trouble with my dm500hd glitching on all ppv channels , when i do a speedtest the download is approx 7 meg but the ping is 500 or 600 ms . is this going to be the cause of the glitching and if so how is it fixed ? im with VMedia , can it be fixed at their end or do they have to come in my house to check it or is it done at the box on the street ? thanks

That ping time is about 10 times what it should be.

Is your browser or setup using a proxy?

Try several different tests or locations - SpeedTest.net allows you to select a server to do the test.

If the test is much better than your share - how many hops are involved?

Just checked and VM are doing a major upgrade ATM so they could be working in your area.

Often when an ISP does a major upgrade it gets worse before it gets better.

I agree with that M8, as I am also with VM, and at the moment it does seem to a bit slower than usual, and as you have said the upgrade in my area is scheduled for March/April.

Yup. They often remove modules from their local nodes (temporarily reducing throughput) and upgrade the hardware elements before replacing it.

I don't understand it as they could just buy a few new upgraded spec modules and swap them but then I don't manage a major ISPs network.
