Very Basic E2 to E2 question

Recently I loaded latest RTi_Core_1.3 E2 image using AZup 2.1.3. Previously this box only had official images. Box is a Premium single tuner with a hard drive. I kept it simple and loaded E2 into the DOM.

I now want to try a different E2 image. Do I use the same method - Insert USBstick with patch.bin on it - then follow instructions?

    I am unsure about:

1/ Do I have to insert the USBstick with patch.bin on it - or is there a better/simpler method to start the process. I have seen posts that say turn on the box with volume up pressed until see ip address on VFD.

2/ Do I keep Format Extended partition ticked ?

3/ Do I keep copy kernel ticked ? What about Only Kernel (unticked by default)

I have seen posts that warn about the EXT4 FS option. I am using AZuP 2.1.3 which only has two FS options EXT2 & EXT3 (EXT3 is the default option).

Use JAZUp 2.3. Like with the DOM but USB stick instead...

    Untick EXT4.

Tick the "Format extended partition" option.

Choose USB stick, instead of the DOM.

Hit the button to "Update E2".

    Wait. Easy, simple, elegant.

JAZUp creates a 64MB SWAP partition, too. That's enough.

It should be cool... Lots of space, depending on the USB stick.

Just figure out which partition has lots of space and put stuff like EPG, picons etc. in there.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for quick reply.

Sorry to be a pain, but I would like to keep it simple for now whilst I am testing, and getting to grips with E2. For now I would like to stick to the DOM option, and to usingAZup, as this combination worked at my first attempt to load E2.

    1 - power off receiver ( @the back)
2 - press and hold volume up (frontpanel receiver )
3 - power on receiver ( while holding volume up )
receiver boots into resque mode and states ipadress in disply
4 - start azup 2.13 on your PC and put in ipadress
    5 - under installE2/kernel press GO
azup will check all different things and then will ask for the location off the patch.e2 file on your PC
6 - select the wanted patch.e2 file and press OK

Burnham, there is nothing simpler than NOT changing the basic image in the DOM and installing an Image into USB stick.

That way, if anything goes wrong, you always have something to play with... Either DOM or USB stick...

Btw, JAZUp makes the first 3 steps above unnecessary, as it reboots AZ HD into Rescue Mode.

Azup 2.13 does the same indeed the first 3 steps aren't neccesary but are the basic steps.

Thank you both for your advice. Conclusion seems to be that both Jazup & AZup will do the job.

I successfully loaded rsi_0_1_1 using AZup (over RTi_Core_1.3). I followed the process as detailed by Carp95 above. The only stumble was between steps 5 & 6 AZup reported an error. I just rebooted again with the vol+ button pressed and then it installed correctly.

Blagi - I appreciate your comments about Jazup, when I have got more familiar with the whole process I will try all the possible methods. For now I wanted to keep it simple and also make sure I wasn't making any beginner's errors.

As to rsi_0_1_1 vs RTi_Core_1.3. rsi_0_1_1 was a more error free installation vs RTi_Core_1.3, but that might have something to do with me trying RTi_Core_1.3 first. As to the look of the two versions, neither are to my liking, but that's down to personal taste. But with either image it's fantastic having all the facilities and features of E2.

    Try PB 3.3.0.

And when SPAZE v. 2.0 comes out - we'll see...
