    hi.

getting on with the dreambox now, still lots to learn, but slowly getting there.

now i have another question......i know how to flash the dreambox by holding the power button etc etc, but lets say i cant get the ip address to come up etc, on my old 7020 i could use the serial port and dream up.

The problem with the dreambox 800se is it dont have a serial port, but i see it has a mini port and USB ports.

If i buy a USB TO SERIAL NULL MODEM CABLE converter would it work on a dreambox, something like this sold on a well known auction site
Newlink HQ USB to Serial 9 pin (RS-232) Adapter Cable or can i use the mini port and dream up some how.

    Thanks

I have tried the mini usb cable with this driver
    Code:
    http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/en/dm-800-hd-se-information
It will create a virtual serial port so that you can use dream up.

I guess it should work with the normal usb ports as well. If you have a cable try it and tell us, so there is no need for a

If you have a 800se, no need to any usb to serial converter, just a usb to mini usb cable (this is for dreamup)
Just the cable (usb/mini usb) the driver from dmm and last dreamup from dmm :
    Code:
    http://www.dream-multimedia-tv.de/en/dm-800-hd-se-information
If you can't get the ip, try to disconnect all usb devices and even the hdd, then try again.

    Hi.
i have no problem with my dreambox, its working 100% fine as i write this, however, once or twice i had my dreambox 7020 refuse to talk to the web browser, and it needed flashing, so out came the old trusted nil cable and dream up and it reflashed it no problem.

Im thinking ahead in case this happens with my new 800se.
As i said ive ordered the cable, ill see if i can get the usb port and lead to talk to the dreambox just in case i ever need it.

If i don't need it , then great, but its there if i do.

    thanks

To do the same as your "old" 7020, you only need the usb->mini usb cable, nothing else !
    Anyway, good luck !

PS: in 6 years, i never used Dreamup on my 7020, allways used lan to flash it !

    DM800se

Worth mentioning here also that it can also decide to change which button on front you hold down when using network flash - 'switch on holding down button to obtain IP address on the box' can change to 'switch on holding up button' as my 8000 has done - this is not a need to revert to dreamup!! Lol. Brain

Sure mate, But 800se only have 1 button, you can't miss it !
But i remember, when i first got the box (800se), after the 1st flash, i couln'd get anymore the ip, later i found that disconnecting all usb devices was the solution.
This problem as gonne with last drivers, SS, etc .
