How to Update image using USB Pen Drive

Upgrade via USB memory stick (formatted to fat32 on a pc)

First extract the downloaded USB image files to some folder on your HDD.
    You'll find the following files

    1) root_cfe_auto.jffs2
    2) kernel_cfe_auto.bin
    3) boot_cfe_auto.jffs2

On USB memory stick, make vuplus\duo\ folder and copy the above 3 files to the vuplus\duo\ folder.

(Make vuplus folder first and then make the subfolder duo )

Now USB memory stick has following 3 files in vuplus\duo\ folder.

    1) vuplus\duo\root_cfe_auto.jffs2
    2) vuplus\duo\kernel_cfe_auto.bin
    3) vuplus\duo\boot_cfe_auto.jffs2

Insert USB Memory stick into the front USB socket and then Power Off / On the VuPlus.

After power-on, VuPlus Duo automatically starts upgrade using the files on the USB memroy stick.

You can see the progress at the front VFD display.

After upgrade is finished, VFD will say that "Finished ...please reboot"
Then be sure to remove the USB, and then Power Off/On the VuPlus STB.

my rough guide to the above process , using BH as an example, other images may have some of the files in different places

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    BACKING UP :-

    1) if you already have an image on the box containing files like cccam.cfg , oscam configs , plugins etc, then do this first

in the menu ,make a note of your settings , like tuner A , tuner B etc, plus any longitude and latitude settings for your usals

also make a note of the audio settings , the paths of the mounted hdd and usb drives ( media/hdd and media/usb )

make a note of your settings to mount any external NAS

make a note of the password used to log into the box too (to be used in the new installation by telnet later)

make a note of the fixed ip settings on the box, including all information like the primary server, dns settings etc

login to the box and backup your channel list settings to a folder on your laptop, using dreamboxedit (or dreamset)

login to the box using an ftp program (DCC , or Filezilla , or Flash FXP etc)

make a folder on your pc called "duo backup 29may2015" or something similar so you know what it is and from when

make a folder called "usb stick" and backup your rear mounted usb stick into this folder by ftp`ing the contents over

make a folder called etc and backup any config files like cccam.cfg - from var/etc

make a folder called "bin" and backup your oscam , cccam , mgcamd bin files - from var/bin

make a folder called "oscam" and backup your oscam config files - from var/tuxbox/config

make a folder called camscript and backup your camscript folder - from usr/camscript

make a folder called "keys" and backup your keys folder - from usr/keys

make a folder called "lib" and backup your plugins - from usr/lib/enigma2/python/plugins/systemplugins

same as above with "extensions" if you have a symlink redirecting Extensions to the USB stick - to /media/usb/Extensions

I usually have a var and usr folder and backup the actual folder to the correct one, so they appear in the correct directories

lastly, do a settings backup to usb stick, also a full backup to the rear mounted usb stick as well , FTP these over to your backup folder on the laptop or pc for safekeeping

nb:- having a 16 gig or 32 gig usb stick in the rear usb slots helps enormously with this box

for backups, a picon folder , for epg data like opentv epg or crossepg data etc

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2) Restoration , or starting from scratch with no backups

installing a new image and restoring the settings etc manually

follow the instructions by HDA5 in post #1 , using a fat32 formatted usb stick and unpacking the files and folders correctly

7zip , peazip , winrar or winzip are usually good for helping the unpacking process

    -----------------------------------------

when the programming has finished , follow the wizards and set the ip address , video resolution , audio settings etc

set the tuners up again too at this point, in setup

use DCC and telnet into the box and set the password using the passwd command

now either install the BH ipk files for oscam , cccam v2.30 , mgcamd , or ftp your files back to their correct locations

ftp your CCCam.cfg file to var/etc

chmod the transferred var/bin bin files to 755 using DCC or an FTP program
if using vix they go in the usr/softcams folder instead

mount the hdd and rear mounted usb drives once more (from the blue - blue menu)

sort out any symlink by moving the Extensions folder to the rear usb stick , use DCC ftp to create the symlink

mount the NAS if you have one on the lan or intend to mount a nas on the lan

in BH addons (green - yellow) add enhanced movie centre , cooltvguide , any boot logo of your choice , series link and manager etc

load back the saved channel list settings using Dreamboxedit (or dreamset or VuCC etc)

now reboot the box completely and test the various options to make sure you have covered all the bases

if you have forgotten anything, do it now and reboot Enigma 2 and test

    ----------------------------------------------------------

if starting from scratch, assemble all you will need using the above as a guide

you will find various emus and channel lists on the forums here, in their appropriate sections

sometimes the options can be downloaded direct from the BH site , using green-yellow

short tutorial on flashing the box from usb stick

try BH 216 or BH 215 (or the latest BH file if using BH) from here ON SATPIMPS

(or you could try the new openvix hades 12 from the openvix firmware site)

    THEN

download the file, UNPACK it with 7zip

format a usb stick that is between half a gig to 8 gig in size to fat32 on your laptop or pc using windows explorer

copy and paste the previously unpacked folder VUPLUS to the stick

switch the solo2 box off completely using the mains switch

place the usb stick in the FRONT usb socket

turn the solo2 box on, and wait while it reads the stick

if all goes well it will program the box

then it will tell you to remove the usb stick and reboot

turn the solo2 box off at the mains and remove the stick

turn the solo2 box back on again and see if it boots up

if it does follow the onscreen wizards

bear in mind these procedures are nothing like your old boxes , there will still be a lot of work to do, which is why the tutorials are here

if it fails, assume the box is faulty (or a clone) -
but try several usb sticks before deciding this, these boxes can be VERY fussy about usb sticks
