Am looking at changing my Broadband service provider.
Currently I have fixed IP.
What is the downside, if any, to having a dynamic IP address?
Dynamic IP service is a lot cheaper than fixed IP service.
Am considering BE Value broadband.

Just had to change myself. Had to get away from the throttled crap that was UKFSN/Entanet. Used to be a great service but since August/ September I very rarely got my full bandwidth even at 4am. Then they throttled even more at weekends and was limited to 50Kbps on a 6.5mb connection and that was the last straw. Just joined AAISP which has very limted usage during 9am - 6pm but have a good allowance all other times and all weekend. At the moment they are maxing out my connection 98% of the time. Long may it continue.
If you don't need remote access to your PC, or use it as a (games) server you probably don't need a static IP address.
Even if at some point you did require the benefits of a static IP address and had a dynamic one, you could use something like DynDNS, dynamic DNS service.
Dynamic DNS Free (DDNS) allows you to create a hostname that points to your home or office IP address, providing an easy-to-remember URL for quick access. We also provide an update mechanism which makes the hostname work with your dynamic IP address. We continue to offer this service free to the Internet community as we have done so for nearly 10 years.
