Works here
select menu on the remote
Main Menu
System Settings (on the left)
A/V Output Setting (on the right)
Screen Format: 4: 3
Display Format: Letterbox (16:9)/ Pan-Scan (4:3)
exit
confirm save for changed settings
you can always change from Pan-scan (4:3)/ Letter Box (4:3) with [WIDE] button on the remote.
This works if you set screen format to 4:3
Letterbox
Pan-Scan
Thanks for reply Giga, thats exactly what I've done, but when I press wide nothing happens. What firmware are you using, and what sort of connection to TV are you using? I am on 679 and using HDMI lead.
688p over HDMI to Samsung LE40B650 and S-VHS to a old 4:3 Tube TV, the switch happens on both displays
on both you get on top of the screen showing Pan Scan or Letter-Box while switching, on the TM-6900 HD Super.
Will test on the TM-6800 HD non super later today.
- check the flatscreen (settings)
or hook up a second TV/monitor via p10 manual scart (6/7), RCA cinch (16), S-VHS (13) and check what is happening on there.
If it shows the messages it should change the display.
Tried Scart connection and picture goes to 4:3 but wide button still wont respond. Also tried another HDMI lead. No luck!
I think I'll have to contact the people I bought if from and see what they say. (ie Replacement/Refund)
It may sound like a small thing and not worth pursuing, but to me it's a very important feature that should work but doesn't.
Thanks for you perseverance with me Giga.
Regards
Satcat.
have you hooked up another TV set? As control against you flatscreen! If you see the messages on screen, Pan Scan, Letter-Box. In my opinion you should see the changes on the control 2nd TV. If you do the test just on the flatscreen, the flatscreen could prevent these changes showing for what ever reason in the flatscreen: upscaling, autoscreen, 16:9, ....
No, unfortunately I don't have another TV.
I understand what you are saying about my flat-screen possibly preventing these changes, but I don't have that problem with my Mvision. That works fine on all settings, connected to TV same way.
I am very happy with the Technomate in all other respects, but if it won't preform this simple task it's going back.

Satcat
played some more with it, this is what seems to be happening on TM's
when your display is set to:
16:9 you can change the appearance of the output of SD 4:3 with wide button.
4:3 you can change the appearance of the output of SD 16:9 (palplus) with wide button.
Good morning Giga.
Yes, I understand what you are saying.
In 4:3 format you can only toggle to pan-scan when watching 16:9 format broadcasts. (intended for watching 16:9 broadcasts on 4:3 TV)
So to watch 4:3 broadcasts on widescreen I have either to watch them with black bands each side of the screen, or watch fat people, or change the format on my TV (which also enlarges the menu)
Not what I expected or wanted.
Will have to think about what to do.
Regards
Satcat.
the 4:3, I watch in Pillar-Box on the HD in 16:9.
Thanks again for all you help and Patience with me Giga. As I said before the Technomate seems a good STB, it's just that little point with the Pan-Scan that I don't like. I think it's going back, and I'm going back to my Mvision.
I might open a new thread and see if anyone out there can recommend an HD STB that can do what I'm looking for.
Satcat.
no hard feelings, glad to be of any assistance.

check the needed terrestrial frequencies for your area in the 6900HD Super
Main Menu: Installation: Terrestrial Scan
Use the ● Autoscan
all the ones used in your area should come up with
Level: █ █
Quality: █ █
if these are showing █ █: insufficient reception for that channel.
If the aerial is on the ground floor: try to raise it
If non DVB-T aerial is used, see if you can test an outside amplified DVB-T aerial
if reception from different transmitters: 2nd aerial with a combiner? polarization H/V
In some cases with the switchover from analogue to digital, transmitting power was reduced?

hi satcat. I've just now come across this tread.
to stop to watch fat people my setting on my TM6900HDsuper+ are as follow:
In MENU AV Settings
Screen format 16:9
Display format full screen
On My TV Toshiba 37" LCD Regza, I've a button on the remote control, WIDESCREEN VIEWING to alter the display, consisting of: Exact scan, Wide, Super live2, Cinema2, 4:3, Superlive1, Cinema1, Subtitle, 14:9.
i use suprlive1 (this will enlarge a 4:3 image to fit the screen by stretching the image horizontally and vertically, holding the correct proportion at the at the centre of the image).
When watching a 1080i, i use Superlive1 or EXACT SCAN (This setting when watching a 1080i source, it will display the image as as transmitted without scaling or cropping the picture)
I hope this helps you
thanks g, iv got 2 other terr ,boxes and they find all the other channels no pr
ob, is this another fault of this box, ie weak/poor tuner
also ,it is a high gain digi aerial and its 50ft in the air,.

hard to tell from here if this is an error?
If you browse thru the frequencies is the used frequency there?
Do you see a signal increase when you select this frequency?
And the blocks do these stay red or do these change to yellow and blue?
And the signal you try to capture is it DVB-T or DVB-T2? Don't think DVB-T2 is supported on 6900HD Super
If DVB-T: has the aerial its own power supply or does the 6900HD Super have to suply the power?
How is it connected to the arial? First box or daisy chained? If not first box, connect it first?
Do your receive any channels? If not DVB-T connection is on the Cable in N° 1 connector page 10 of its manual. If you look at the front: top right or at the back: top left and not in the middle bottom (input from analog terrestrial antenna)
thanksg, that must b the answer, it doesnt support dvb2, shame ,missing about 30 channels, so thats another reason i wished i hadnt bought this box,.
