dont tell me you spent 40 quid on an optical lead m8,you can get them for a fiver of the bay,,right lets put this to bed m8,is this your new 5.1 dvd/home cinema,if so (lg only make 2 and this is the cheaper one)
so if you hdmi this to your tv,then when you get skyHD reciever use your other hdmi lead tv>sky then test, then try sky to homecinema with optical as said may only be dolby not 5.1

she has posted her problem didnt like her name abbrieviated, dont see how that calls for your comment, leave it to the OP if she has a problem use the moderators,,
i think keith has been treated unfairly in a few of his recent posts too,ok the tv choice was a bit of a grind but we all have different levels of understanding and no one is obliged to help or read threads if they dont want too

    @ Keith Mawer-

I dont know if this will help but I have the following setup (it probably doesnt give you 5.1 though)
I have a sony 5.1 surround unit, what I have done is used the earphones output socket from my Samsung tv and connected directly to my sony 5.1 surround input jack (for external devices such as mp3 players etc) and selected 'inputjack' as the source.
Seems to work for me but im not too fussed about acheiving full 5.1 when watching sly.
I think I might look into the optical avenue if it does lend itself to 5.1!

Right Keith lets put this to bed. If someone is setting up this system for you you just tell the mofo you want 5.1. The movie channels mostly carry this so it is important you have it connected properly. Also have a copy of Saving Private Ryan to hand, the opening scene when they are landing on the beaches is amazing in 5.1 and good to test system.

Now how do you rate the help you received on this thread from everyone, especially simon 2003 who went out of his way to get a picture for you, lol?
If you found it helpful get some cream on your allergy and use the "thanks" button. ROFLAO

At last now I understand. Make sure the guy selects dolby digital in the settings of the sky hd box. And beleive me sky does not transmit dolby digital over hdmi so dont believe him if he says so for a quite life. It should say on the display dolby digital when broadcast. the banner on the sky box for the movies will have DD in the prog synopsis!!

    enjoy

hiya!!!!!!! ok my report ( hope typing is ok ) ... the guy from currys installed the lg tv and home cinema ,( was here ages!), thank goodness he did as its very tricky!! believe you me. especially the stand to the lg set,,,
ok onto facts ,, the home cinema is amazing , i put in casino royal and its all 5.1 quite breathtaking,, ALSO i wont get a blue ray now... the picture is upscaled to 1080 and would never get it clearer,,
OK TO THE MOANE!!! WHEN I AM ON SAY SLY( standard not hd) via scart,,, OR lets say digitv on 1w with my techomate via scart,, the sound only comes from THE TELEVISION,, so in other words dvds really good ,, anything else not so good!!
i checked the dvd player and it has a optical IN on it ,,, so do you think the sly hd receiver ( get monday) with a optical lead will work in 5.1 or the very least sound from the speakers rather than the television!!

    Yes

Stop calling it a dvd player because it only confuses things its an all in one surround system

You probably have stereo analogue outs on your TV and stereo analogue in on your ALL IN ONE so you could have dolby surround sound from freeview or anything on screen including your techomate

This would all be in the manual and don't worry its probably has pictures

Edit : looks like the tv only has optical out so if your all in one has two optical inputs you could use that or its also very likely one of your scarts on your tv also doubles as an output which you could use to get audio from your TV to your all in one so you could have dolby surround on normal viewing

Glad you got set up but you make it very difficult, there are quite a few technomate models so we cant check to see if the one you have has optical out??????:beatdeadhorse5:

as i said when sky gets installed the guy should know how to connect the optical and change settings in sky box.

If your technomate has optical out as well you can buy a switcher like this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/HQ-Optical-T...5128552&sr=8-1

    good luck

    please report back

thanks very much ,, well the home cinema has 1 optical , it says"optical in"... may be its wrong but until monday the lead is home cinema optical to tv optical,,,,
ALSO have TURNED THE TELEVISION SPEAKERS TO off IN THE LG audio menu,... its so stupid as basically all i want is the following!!
1, sly to work in 5.1 surround ( if there is a 5.1 broadcast!!)
so is it please ( when the sly installer arrives,) sky ( optical ) to home cinema optical?????also would a hdmi still be required for that
FINALLy my techo is only a 1500 . with scart lead.( does not have a optical socket)

As I said your TV has an optical out and from what you have just said its going into the optical in on your all in one system which means all audio is coming from that instead of your TV which is why your TV speakers are off

You will not be able to keep it like this if you want sky HD in 5.1 because the optical out from your sky HD box will have to go into the optical in on your surround system, the HDMI from the sky box will go straight into your TV

So now anything other than sky HD will not have surround sound because your TV is no longer connected to your surround system by optical

If you want to keep your TV connected to your surround system so all audio comes from that instead of the TV speakers you will either have to use an Optical switcher like gbmitie posted or as I said its very likely one of your TV scarts acts as an output in which case you could use a scart to stereo phono lead, scart end in the TV phono into your surround

BINGO ,,, i am sure everyone will be pleased to hear i have it working!!
ok , i sat down and had a bit of paper and planned the route!!
home cinema player to tv ...... hdmi lead
tv to sly receiver......................hdm i lead
sly receiver to home cinema player...... optical lead!!
now i get all dvds made in 5.1 with sound from 5 speakers
and sly tv when broadcast in dolby from all 5 speakers...
thats ware i went wrong not putting optical from the sly to the home cinema!!

ps the only scart i have now is from the techo 1500 to the tv!!!
until such time i decide on a techo 6900hd receiver via hdmi

    phew!!!!
