Tried the USB boot option? or is it stuck before the USB drivers are loaded? Stick the patch file on a USB stick and see if it boots.

I think you need to use RS232 to fix boot... you have a 4 pin header inside where you can add a MAX232 IC to make it RS232 console. From there you can access Yamon:

    _http://www.linux-mips.org/wiki/YAMON

    Original von AudioSlyer
    Pin1 - RX
    Pin2 - VCC
    Pin3 - GND
    Pin4 - TX

You have here how to build converter to RS232. With that device you should be able to access console and fix boot:
    _http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/AddASerialPort

You have already tried emergency boot via USB and using telnet to connect to box?

Hi, Don't know if you have tried this procedure, also try several usb sticks if one doesn't work and maybe different firmware update as well. Hope this helps.

This procedure should be used ONLY in case that was not possible acess to Menu.

    1) Download a new firmware from the Azbox web site. (Format of software should be patch.bin)
    2) Copy the firmware file to your USB memory stick.
    3) Insert the USB memory stick into the USB port of the digital receiver. 4) Power OFF and POWER ON the reciever with the USB Memory INSIDE.
    5) Wait for instructions on VFD or in screen. If you cannot see anything on TV screen use RCA or scart (not HDMI)
    6) If every thing is ok The receiver will install new Software and you can recovery back the control of your receiver.

AND IF YOU CANNOT GO TO TO BOOT MENU (STEP 5), or if your box STAY all time on booting phase, reboot it and when saw Checking ... on VFD press several times the button OK until go to BOOT MENU.

PAY ANTENTION IN ANY CASE DO THIS OPERATION WITH A NTFS HDD PLUGGED! !!!!

IN ANY CASE POWER OFF OR REBOOT DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS!!!!

IMPORTANT NOTE Your USB memory must be formatted in the FAT file system. Otherwise, the digital receiver cannot recognize your USB memory. In addition, the digital receiver can only recognize files and directories which are named with only alphabetic, numeric and underscore letters. If there is a file or folder named with other letters, the digital receiver cannot recognize not only it but also its subsequent files and folders.

Sorry that is all info I have on that... people where able to boot from there... but much info was lost when first developers forum went down. That is all I had copied... maybe someone else could provide more info...

IMHO OpenSAT should provide some alternative emergency recovery... seen many issues lately with boxes having to go to repair because boot gets corrupted.

Last option for you will be to try to get help from local SAT for OpenSAT or Sunny.

Popcorn Hour had special ways to recover from firmware boot issues... better than our method on AzBox... hope they come with an alternative method to recover.

I have not seen any jtag files... people got access to Yamon to be able to boot own kernel (from Popcorn). To get to console you need to use RS232 where you able to access console?

I think jtag files are probably only provided to SAT... maybe you can get loader.bin inside patch.bin file (firmware). Maybe older revisions included more stuff.

No idea... I am just giving you things to try... your best option is to send box for repair.

But patch.bin must have files inside, after you decompress don't know format but probably there is a loader.bin (remember seen it when you update via USB)... maybe in jffs2 file format...

At least it should allow you to boot kernel from network via Yamon... or if you connect a HDD IDE to DOM socket. Don't remember how they did the booting. Think it was via NFS or BOOTP via Yamon. In the boot parameters there is an IP 10.x.x.x format where you should be able to connect.

Do not try with a usb stick, try using a USB HARD DRIVE,those do not give problems to recognize.
Make sure is fat32 formated, put the patch.bin in the root directory, plug it into usb port of the box.
Then powerup and see if the loader menu comes up.
It should do it while booting still displaying in the box.

    Hope this help.

patch.bin is just a cramfs image, extract it, the loader.bin file is in the FLASH directory.
    - thanx to nobody on German AZ forum!
