    Icon3 Satdudez AZbox HD section recommendations for Opensat

    Here is mine, to kick-start it, regarding the very idea of AZbox HD + the GUI itself, in particular...

    Graphically, we need 4 or maybe even 5 groups or icons, which will be logically sitting next to one another! There is no need, for instance, to separate TV and Plug-ins with a YouTube or any other icon, as we need to go between them frequently!

    A)
    1) Settings
    2) TV
    3) Plugins

    ==========
    B)
    4) Movies
    5) Music
    6) Photos

    ==========
    C)
    7) FTP
    8) Files viewer
    [with an editor to add lines to, for instance, cwshare.cfg and alike!]

    =========
    D)
    9) Browser
    [various groups of Favs etc.]
    10) Streaming [Not only YouTube but also Google Video, to see whole movies on the net, then IPTV etc. - we need more plug-ins Firefox style for that to work properly, being capable of adding them ourselves!]
    11) RSS Feeds

    ========
    E) Education
    [by age groups, I presume - but also areas/topics?]
    a) toddlers
    b) kids
    c) adults

    and/or at the same time, in a different order of things

    e) Humanities
    f) Natural Sciences and Technology
    g) Arts
    h) Religion

    - to help them with learning/studying, re-education/re-positioning themselves in the world/on the market!!!

    Maybe align AZbox HD with Encyclopaedia Britannica and similar organisations, and of course, Wiki?

    Explanation: it would be leading to all the main studying/learning/information sites, so this box has a competitive advantage to mere entertainment boxes, making it a really "cool tool" and not just an escapist device but an all-round tool, a tool to release the potential we have for learning and bettering ourselves - whatever's online, in the best Audio-Visual manner possible, on a big screen [it must look loads better than on a PC or lappy screen!], making studying/learning that much better, more effective - thereby UNLOCKING A WEALTH OF INFORMATION!!! From Cosmos to Biology, from Medicine to Engineering, from IT to Art, from Music to Maths...

    ================================= ==============

    To improve seriously and quickly:

    -latest kernel, maybe?

    -better recognition of external HDDs is a must [if Ubuntu can mount NTFS stuff, so should AZbox HD]

    -better recording,

    -improve significantly the internet speed

    -speed of zapping

    -speed of the browser

    -connecting to Vista based PCs directly and easily

    -playing all the formats

    -no restrictions re. compression etc.

    -more plugins, controlling all the aspects of this potentially great multimedia centre, like wireless keyboard/mouse etc.

    -we need a really good, comprehensive EMU/CS - server/client, with all the trimmings, as it were [from seeing what's going on to editing the cwshare via remote and so on and on]: MultiCAS + Mbox in a package would be really cool, if it could be done properly, reading all the cards and passing on the ECMs/EMMs, as we need/want them!!!

    -playing the Audio-Visual content from the net [many more plugins built into the browser], i.e. streaming sorted properly [re. the streaming of telly channels via internet/browser, here are some examples]:

    I think that they know about these problems.

    Everytime i notice a bug i send it to OpenSat. They have a large list of bugs and wishes! (probably)

    I am happy at the moment with my little box.

    I know this is never gonna happen but I can dream.

    In recordings + timeshift the whole stream should be recorded.

    Now subtitles are missing ( DVB -subtitling) and also teletext should be part of timeshift.

    Talking about teletext there should be 1000 pages memory (sub pages also)
    I think there is now something like 5 pages in memory , when browsing news quickly waiting pages to load is nonsense.
    Also the teletext pages should be loaded to memory right away when starting to watch channel, not when teletext button is pressed.

    I some one is wondering why I ask the teletext things, the answer is : there are providers who really put their news contents to teletext , even realtime scores from ice-hockey games etc.
    ( Not just "dating" things or advertising content. like I have found to be sometimes. )

    Browser should support _http://areena.yle.fi/ which is a TV archieve.

    The .ts files from various TV-cards/ USB sticks I have are not all supported, and my DM500 could play them.
    Maybe I need to restart using my old faithfull 500 again?

    Do you think we will ever get the movie/tv artwork and info like in Mediaportal?

    I read somewhere that its the same chip as Popcorn Hour and that also has plugins to show this kind of thing?

    Here are some bugs/problems that i found. I also have two wishes:

    - when I choose croatian subtitles on HBO Adria (digi tv) they normally show up but when i reboot azbox, i need to choose croatian subtitles AGAIN. I think this is well known bug.
    - when i set resolution to auto or 1080p i get normal picture. When i set resolution to 720p, 1080i or lower one i always get corrupted picture (only half of the screen is filled with picture for example). I have 42x10 (720p resolution TV) Panasonic plasma which is working normal.
    - č and š (windows-1250 - i think) letters doesnt work. I am using subtitles quite a lot.

    And my wishes:

    http://www.shrani.si/t/3J/wR/3AkzKyl...7688988952.jpg
    There should be percents too not only graphic!

    Another wish is:
    - when i want to go out of teletext menu i must press "BACK" button.
    There should be a possibility to exit from teletext with "TEXT" button!

    Now i find more problems...
    -When azbox wakes up from standby it takes quite a few seconds (i need to measure this) for my TV to detect azbox HDMI signal.
    - EPG on Slovenian channels doesnt work (Eutelsat W2 (16.0E) - 12726.33 V - Txp: F6 - Beam: Europe DVB-S (QPSK) - 30000 3/4 - NID:366 - TID:24633)
    - EPG is updating slow. EPG on azbox should fetch information from satelites faster.

    The obvious of course:

    fix the CI-Slots. Not even an official TVVL/C+ NL CAM works in
    the Azbox.

    I also noticed that speed of opening of SD and HD channels is the same??
    LOL

    Sigma should improve this.

    And one question. Why is picture on some HD channels greyish? Also black color is grey. WTF? I am talking about HD channels on 1W and 28.2

    HD Suisse works without a problem.

    Well, is it really? Could it have something to do with the connection and the telly itself, maybe?

    I can not account for it, in my setup, with HDMI and Pana full HD plasma...

    No, sorry. Maybe you need to re-install and carefully sort out your dish settings once again?

    I know I had to, when it all got corrupted, at some point...

    Good luck!

    Did I mention that it all [AZbox HD and Pana BluRay player] goes into a Pana Home Theatre and into the Pana plasma? HDMI only! :cheers2:

    Take a look at the Ya(h)oo TV widgets:

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10217972-1.html

    Firstly, I think it would be nice if the AzBox supported Ya(h)oo TV wigets (if possible, perhaps as plugins?) as there are some useuful functions there, however mostly I think it would be good if the plugin system worked in a similar way to how Ya(h)oo TV widgets have been set up. By that I mean that whilst watching TV you could press the menu button and select "plugins" could bring up a plugin sidebar and you could browse through them to find the one you want, whilst the TV is playing in the background.

    Installing and managing plugins could be done in the same way as they are done now, I just think its a shame I have to go out of watching TV in order to activate a plugin!
